UNSTABLE GROUND
Research Project with Open School East, Margate
2025-26
Led by Hugh Nicholson and developed in collaboration with associates from Open School East, Unstable Ground is an ongoing research project examining the concept of the 'civic' in relation to ideas of solutionism, ecological degradation and displaced crisis. Unstable Ground emerged from an initial three-month period of research in Thanet and East Kent, and was commissioned by Open School East and further supported by London Arts and Humanities Partnership (LAHP).
A map and publication were devised in response to a series of visits to specific places or sites.
A curriculum comprising six sessions - some online, some in person - was created to examine the question of artistic form in an age of solutions.
A small exhibition - entitled Giving Ground - was devised by Open School East participants in response to the programme.
